Boulevard Raspail – Paris 6th: An elegant artery between history, culture and real estate
The 6th arrondissement of Paris is an emblematic place, where history, art and architectural heritage are mixed. Located on the left bank of the Seine, it stretches from the Quai Malaquais to the Luxembourg Gardens. This prestigious district of Paris, rich in culture, has seen centuries of evolution. Its uniqueness lies in its ability to combine the charm of the past with modern effervescence. Formerly the domain of the Abbey of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, Paris 6th has retained its character while integrating into the Parisian urban fabric. Discover the treasures of the city, where the streets tell part of the history of the capital.
A boulevard steeped in history
Opened during the nineteenth century, the Boulevard Raspail embodies one of the major axes of the Parisian left bank, harmoniously linking the Montparnasse district to that of Saint-Germain-des-Prés. It owes its name to François-Vincent Raspail (1794–1878), a chemist, doctor and committed republican politician, known for his progressive spirit and his social struggles. A fierce opponent of the monarchical regime, he was imprisoned several times for his beliefs. Paying tribute to him on a boulevard in the heart of Paris, between the artistic, intellectual and political worlds, is not insignificant.
The boulevard has witnessed many historical events. During the Occupation, some private mansions housed dissident resistance fighters and intellectuals. At the Liberation, the tricolour flags once again flew on the balconies of Haussmannian and Art Deco buildings, saluting the resilience of a district with a strong republican identity.
A place of passage but also of creation, the Boulevard Raspail was for a long time a landmark for artists. One thinks in particular of Alberto Giacometti, whose Foundation is now located at no. 5 bis, in his former studio. Not far from there, Simone de Beauvoir and Jean-Paul Sartre frequented the surrounding cafés, embodying the existentialist soul of the district.
The architecture reflects this richness: Haussmannian buildings, Art Deco buildings, modern residences, including the Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain, designed by Jean Nouvel in 1994, which testifies to the dialogue between history and innovation.

Haussmannian real estate and price per m2 on Boulevard Raspail
Boulevard Raspail is mainly composed of Haussmannian buildings with continuous balconies, moldings and remarkable high ceilings. Near the Cartier Foundation, a few modern buildings provide a harmonious contrast.
It runs along several popular districts: Notre-Dame-des-Champs, Saint-Placide, Sèvres-Babylone... Its strategic location attracts both families and investors looking for a luxury property.
The average property price on Boulevard Raspail (75006) is around €13,500/m², with significant increases towards Sèvres-Babylone and Faubourg Saint-Germain. Renovated properties, family properties, with elevator, balcony, unobstructed view or interior garden can reach €25,000/m².
The section located in the 14th arrondissement, between Boulevard Montparnasse and Place Denfert-Rochereau, is less expensive, although still highly sought after for its accessibility and large volumes.
Lutetia: the palace of the left bank
At the corner of Boulevard Raspail and Rue de Sèvres, the majestic Hotel Lutetia embodies the refined soul of the Parisian Left Bank. The only palace on this side of the Seine, it was inaugurated in 1910 on the initiative of Marguerite Boucicaut, visionary heiress of Le Bon Marché, to welcome a wealthy clientele from all over France. The idea? To offer an exceptional place just a stone's throw from its department store, a reflection of accessible and cultured Parisian luxury.
Designed by the architects Louis-Hippolyte Boileau and Henri Tauzin, the building features an elegantly sculpted Art Nouveau façade , with ornaments by Léon Binet, then Paul Belmondo, evoking the wine-growing history of ancient Lutetia. The interior, modernized in the 1920s, houses one of the first Art Deco bars in the capital, including a fresco by Adrien Karbowsky.
More than a palace, the Lutetia has gone through the history of Paris: requisitioned by the German services during the Occupation, it became a place of reception for returning deportees at the Liberation. This memory, discreet but deeply rooted, gives a rare thickness to this place that has seen writers, politicians and artists from all over the world.
Now completely renovated, the Lutetia continues to embody the prestige of the 6th arrondissement, attracting a demanding clientele in search of the discreet elegance of the Left Bank. Its presence at the entrance to Boulevard Raspail symbolically marks the beginning of a
